About

Here’s a little story ‘bout Lexington Bob,

Graduated college didn’t want a job,

    hitchhiked across the United States,

Met a girl named Ann from Virginia State,

Well, this courting went on for quite awhile,

Bob went to Europe to travel in style (not really)

Ann got fed up, went to track him down,

found him in Holland said “Marry me now”

So Bob said “Sure”, best thing he ever did,

they settled in the Netherlands, even had two kids,

Wine was a hobby that became a dream,

Could it become reality........ probably not.

So this dream was there, in the back of their heads,

as they lived in D.C. and both became Feds,

as time passed by and the kids moved away,

to get away from their folks, they moved to Kentucky.

So the kids were gone, and the dream came back,

Gotta find some land where the soil ain’t whack,

Where in the world are we gonna grow these grapes?

Follow the kids! Kentucky’s the place.

So the land was bought and grapes were planted,

In Washington County amongst the hills that are slanted,

Drive down the gravel road past the chute used to herd,

Welcome all friends to Horseshoe Bend Vineyard!!!  (and Winery)

Horseshoe Bend was founded in 1986 in the hills of Washington County. The vines were planted in 1997 with the first grapes being sold in 2000 to Chrisman Mill. This continued until a year and a half ago when the “dream” was realized, and our bottles hit the shelves of local liquor stores and wine shops.

Horseshoe Bend is Kentucky Proud, and thus, is proud of the many wineries that are popping up throughout our state. Some of the best soil in the United States is found along our borders. And with great soil comes great wine.  As this web site expands, so will the amount of wine being produced in this state. As time scrolls along we will try and update you, the consumer, with the many different styles and wineries that are being offered in Kentucky, and provide links and information to them.

Now for some fun notes to help you enjoy what we have to offer. Our wine is heavily European influenced, seeing as how the family spent many years in the Netherlands. Both children were born there, as well as the dream of making wine. With the exception of the two dessert wines, all the wine at Horseshoe Bend is in a dry style. This is the only “wine word” that is going to be thrown at you.

If you are new to tasting wine, welcome. First and foremost, have fun with it.  Only you know what tastes good and what you like. Try as many different wines as you can, and find your niche. Do not be afraid to experiment; try a red wine with fish or chicken; try a white wine with steak. There are no rules, only combinations with imaginations.

We created our wine with all kinds of tastes in mind, and in the coming months we will showcase recipes as well as cigars to be paired with our varietals.  Imagine the endless possibilities!!  Picture this: a California roll (sushi) with a crisp, citrus bodied Vidal Blanc. Or an earthy cigar with a meaty cabernet.

Also, in the coming months, Horseshoe Bend will offer a wine club, and a cigar and wine club.  Details are being hammered out and we will post the information as soon as it becomes available. We will be having tastings around town and will also pass along that information to you.

Just to repeat, thank you for stopping by. Enjoy the flavors being offered to you, and if you do not like our wine, let us know. We will try and find one that you will enjoy.  There are 46 wineries currently in Kentucky, so we are sure one can be found for you!!
